BiblioReads

A rotating library for underfunded government schools and nonprofits. Every month, each school's batch of books moves on to the next school, so a small collection reaches far more kids.

The problem

Schools with no library.

About 24% of schools in Haryana don't have the resources to build a library. Buying a full collection for every school wasn't realistic, so I flipped the question: what if the books moved instead?

One batch of books, shared in a loop, reaches eleven times as many students.
The rotation

Books on a loop.

Each school keeps a curated batch for a month, then passes it on. Five schools are in Gurgaon and six are in rural Rajasthan through our partner Bindi.

The system

Software for every book.

Rotating hundreds of books across eleven sites only works if you know where every copy is. I built a PHP/MySQL library management system with a bilingual Hindi/English interface so teachers could use it in whichever language they were comfortable with.

  • ISBN-keyed issue and return, so each copy is tracked individually
  • Per-student issue records showing what every reader has borrowed
  • Monthly per-school logs that make the hand-off between schools clean

Running it

Three years of showing up.

  • Sourced books every month from Daryaganj, Delhi's book market, picking literary and educational titles at an elementary to intermediate English level
  • Held weekly feedback sessions at schools for three years and used student feedback forms to choose the next books
  • Ran informal reading sessions with English language support
  • Procured 1,000+ books through school and neighbourhood book drives
  • Raised ₹42,000 (about $500) through a Milaap fundraiser
  • Partnered with Bindi, an international nonprofit, to reach six schools in rural Rajasthan

Let's talk.

I'm looking for software engineering internships for Summer 2027, and I'm always happy to talk about projects.
